About Anime Anki Generator

This tool creates personalized Anki flashcard decks from anime subtitles. Search for an anime, choose your JLPT level, and get a deck of vocabulary cards featuring:

Words actually used in that anime
Level-appropriate example sentences (simpler for beginners, using anime lines when suitable)
Real anime quotes showing how the word is used in context
Kanji breakdown by radical
Audio pronunciation

How it works

Subtitles are downloaded from Kitsunekko or Jimaku
Text is tokenized to extract vocabulary, sorted by frequency
Words are filtered to your JLPT level
For each word, we find anime sentences where it appears
If the sentence fits your level, it becomes the example; otherwise a simpler one is generated
Translations and explanations are generated, audio is added

What's from where

From dictionaries: JLPT word lists, kanji radicals, ateji detection (JMdict)
From subtitles: Anime sentences, vocabulary frequency
LLM-generated: Translations, explanations, simpler example sentences when needed

Limitations

No pitch accent — Word audio lacks pitch accent marking
TTS readings — May mispronounce anime-specific names and terms
Generated content — Translations and explanations may contain mistakes
Subtitle availability — Not all anime have subtitles available
JLPT filtering — Some words may be miscategorized by level
Ateji detection — JMdict doesn't tag all phonetic kanji words, so some may show misleading breakdowns
